★ Carly Rae Jepsen: Emotion, 2015
I still sometimes forget how fractionated popular culture has become since the rise of streaming media services. My reaction to listening to this eleven-year-old album is: How was this not a big hit? And then I realize that maybe it was, with people who were paying attention to this space, and I just was not one of them. The lyrics are still a bit 1980s mall-pop, and it has just a few too many songs that are all very similar, but the music is solid indie synth, and there are a handful of really solid bops here.

Run Away with Me
I Really Like You
Boy Problems
I Didn't Just Come Here to Dance
